Student Spotlight: Lucy Finocchiaro

Today we meet Lucy Finocchiaro, a master’s student in the College of Public Health.

What sparked your interest in public health?

I studied animal science as an undergrad at Kansas State University, where I was introduced to the concept of “One Health” — the interconnectedness of the health of humans, animals and the environment. I’ve always been passionate about serving others, humans and animals included, and thought the field of public health was the perfect opportunity to allow me to do both! I love that public health puts research directly into practice and allows for interdisciplinary areas of health care to take large strides in making improvements.

Three things people may not know about you.

• I’ve been playing the piano since I was in second grade and performed at an international piano concert when I was 14.
• I work for an agricultural safety organization on campus (Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health), where I do research on the health and safety of bison workers.
• I am crazy about horses and am especially passionate about the field of equine therapy.
