UNMC 3D Invent-a-Thon returns

Sponsored by the McGoogan Library of Medicine, the annual Invent-a-thon, an educational outreach event aimed at high school students, is returning and looking for teams.

The event will run from Oct. 22-26, with final judging taking place at UNMC on Oct. 26. The UNMC community and the public are invited to attend the final presentations, which will begin at 5 p.m. on Oct. 26 in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005.

The event will provide a real-world medical issue and teams will then compete to develop a 3D-printed design to solve the problem.

Students also will tour the Biomechanics Lab at UNO during the weeklong challenge and see their solutions being printed. The event will take place on both the UNO and UNMCs= campuses.

The challenge allows students to see the benefits of the technology. The winning team will receive a 3D-printed trophy, and VIP tickets to the 2019 Nebraska Science Festival keynote presentation and reception.

Teams of high school students (up to four per team) from the Omaha area are invited to participate in this free event. 3D-printing experience from at least one team member is preferred. Contact unmcevents@unmc.edu for more event and registration information.
