Legislative candidate Scott Winkler toured UNMC earlier this month.

The candidate for District 18 in northwest Omaha, a two-time graduate of the University of Nebraska system, met with Vice Chancellor for External Affairs Bob Bartee and toured the iEXCEL Visualization Hub and the Center for Advanced Surgical Technology.

“Education is going to be one of my top priorities if I’m elected to the state legislature,” Winkler said. “So I want to know, what are the facilities we have available to us — faculty, staff, research capabilities. What is here and what do we need?

“This has been an eye-opening experience in terms of the technology that we have available to us to train future health care professionals in our state.”

Winkler said he wanted to help the university system, which he sees as one of the biggest assets in the state.

“For me, it’s important that these facilities will be available widely across our state,” he said. “Health issues are not concentrated just in Omaha and Lincoln, so I want to make sure that the resources we have here can be transported and reach all the way across our state.”
