Carolyn Peterson

Tell us about what you do here at UNMC.

I am a research nurse in the Clinical Research Center (CRC). I currently coordinate research studies for Parkinson’s disease, ALS, renal transplant, cervical torticollis and spasticity.

Accountability is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person take ownership and be resilient, transparent and honest.

Our department has been involved in the trials for the treatment of Ebola since the first patient came to UNMC. Our CRC staff had to work hard and fast to get the investigational treatment protocol to the IRB for quick approval. Our manager, LuAnn Larson, had to don all the apparel, enter the patient’s strict isolation room and give the first dose. She was accountable for giving the drug and observing the patient in a very intense situation. Later, she was able to share that experience with the rest of our staff and other organizations. Due to the positive response, UNMC continues to be a leader in the research for Ebola treatment.

What is your favorite fall activity?

My favorite fall activity is going to a pumpkin patch with my grandchildren.

List three things people may not know about you.

• I spent three weeks on a medical mission trip with my church to Nigeria in 1994.
• I used to play the baritone ukulele and guitar.
• I currently serve as keyboardist/organist at King of Kings Church for the Classic Grace service.
