Activities set for ‘It’s on Us Week’

The UNMC Title IX Office, EMPOWER and the Psychiatry Interest Group will be holding events the week of Oct. 22-26 to mark “It’s on US Week.”

“It’s on US Week is a week of action to raise awareness and to prevent sexual assault,” said Carmen Sirizzotti, UNMC Title IX coordinator.

Events include:

  • Monday, Oct. 22: Health Care for Survivors of Sexual Assault, Intimate Partner Violence, and Human Trafficking
    Hear three licensed mental health professionals discuss their differing approaches to treating survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and human trafficking.

    Noon-1 p.m.
    Lunch will be provided for the first 50 attendees.

  • Friday, Oct. 26: Clips from “The Voiceless” and “We Are Survivors”
    “The Voiceless” features stories of five male survivors of sexual violence. “We Are Survivors” lets eight survivors of sexual assault, molestation and rape tell their stories and encourage others to do the same.

    EMPOWER is a student-led Legacy project supported by the Office of Community Engagement within Academic Affairs. EMPOWER’s mission is to increase awareness and provide opportunities for future health care professionals to become involved in efforts to minimize domestic and sexual violence in our community and beyond.
