Smoking cessation course offered on campus

UNMC pharmacist and smoking cessation expert Tom Klingemann, Pharm.D., will hold smoking cessation courses from 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 15 and 28 in the Sorrell Center, Room 2007.

The classes will be offered free of charge.

“My classes will empower the tobacco/nicotine user to differentiate their addiction between the physical addiction to nicotine and the psychological addiction to using the product,” Dr. Klingemann said. “The attendee will learn how their addiction started, how it progressed into its current state, and how to treat each component of their addiction. We will go over medications approved for nicotine addiction and teach behavioral modification therapy to treat the psychological addiction. Attendees do not have to have an actual quit date in mind to attend.”

UNMC is a tobacco-free campus. This policy reflects the commitment of UNMC to:

  • Create and provide a safe and healthy environment for its students, employees, patients, visitors, volunteers, contractors, vendors, and other guests;
  • Improve the health of UNMC students, faculty, staff, as well as Nebraskans, and continue to be a leader in health promotion and disease prevention; and
  • Assist those who wish to quit using tobacco products.
