Dr. Sikorski tackles holiday blues at Olson lecture

Jonathon Sikorski, Ph.D., assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Psychiatry, will speak on “Surviving the Holiday Blues” at the next Brown Bag Lunch Series for the Olson Center for Women’s Health.

Dr. Sikorski will speak Dec. 18 from noon-1 p.m. in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

According to Psychology Today, the holiday blues are a real phenomenon. While many people experience joy during the holiday season, this time of year also can trigger feelings of fatigue, anxiety and depression. For some, the holidays are anything but joyful.

At the lecture, Dr. Sikorski will identify 10 “thinking traps” that adversely impact our mood and well-being. He will explain how to overcome these traps and identify strategies to help others cope with depression during the holidays.

The lectures are free. The cost to obtain nursing credit is $10. Payment instructions will be given when you pre-register.
