Each year, hundreds of new UNMC students flock to the Center for Healthy Living gymnasium to explore the vast organizational opportunities at UNMC.

Pharmacy student Megan Poppe of Crofton and medical students Leah Miller of Ponca and Ian Young of O’Neill were among those who meandered from booth-to-booth Thursday seeking information and freebies at the annual Student Orientation Fair.

Organized by UNMC’s Student Counseling office, the fair is a prime opportunity to learn more about the various organizations and what each has to offer, said second-year medical student Jon Henning.

Here is a breakdown of this year’s event:

400 – first-year students who explored such organizations as the Aging Interest Group and Emergency Medicine Interest Group to the Integrative Medicine Group and the Student Association for Rural Health.

300 – the number of prepared sandwiches, chips, cookies and fruit.

125 – the cost of a four-year membership to the American Medical Student Association, which landed students a free Netter anatomy book (valued at $80).
