James Armitage, M.D., will take center stage when The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) hosts one of its signature educational programs, “Ask the Doctor About Lymphoma,” on March 12 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in downtown Omaha.
LRF is the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research and serving the lymphoma community through a comprehensive series of education programs, outreach initiatives and patient services.
A 1973 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, Dr. Armitage started the bone marrow transplantation program at the University of Iowa in 1979. He has practiced at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine since 1982, serving as chief of the division of oncology/hematology (1986-89); chair of the department of internal medicine (1990-1999); and dean of the College of Medicine (2000-2003). He presently holds the position of the Joe Shapiro Professor of Medicine.
“Ask the Doctor” is a national series of two-hour, topic-specific, community-based programs that combine a presentation by a medical doctor with an extensive question-and answer-session, offered free-of-charge to members of the lymphoma community. This program seeks to offer an opportunity for networking among lymphoma patients, survivors, and their caregivers, as well as, provide the most up-to-date and comprehensive information on lymphoma.
“I learn so much every time I attend an LRF program,” said LRF Ambassador Geoff Grubbs. “The science is moving so fast that hearing the latest from some of the best doctors in the country is not only educational, it’s inspirational.”
