State senators tour College of Dentistry clinics, interactive classroom

In separate visits, State Sen. Patty Pansing Brooks, who serves Legislative District 28 in the heart of Lincoln, and State Sen. Adam Morfeld, representing northeast Lincoln, including downtown Lincoln and the University of Nebraska campus, toured the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln in December.

The tours were led by UNMC College of Dentistry dental students who guided the senators through the college’s 137 operatories, including the general dentistry clinics, the dental hygiene clinics and the specialty clinics where dental residents perform more advanced treatments. They described their four-year curriculum and the group practice model of delivering patient care and the latest dental technology used to diagnose and treat dental disease.

Students also led demonstrations of the new interactive iWall and talked about how the technology has transformed the way their faculty are teaching and how they use the iWall after hours in study groups.

College of Dentistry Dean Janet Guthmiller, D.D.S., Ph.D., accompanied the tours and joined other UNMC leaders, including Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., in meeting with Sen. Pansing Brooks. Sen. Morfeld also met with campus leaders during his visit.
