Registration has been extended through Feb. 12 for UNMC’s fourth annual Elevating the Conversation Symposium, which will explore organizational factors that either hinder or build a culture of wellness and how these factors impact overall well-being.

All UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and UNO faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the Feb. 15 symposium, which runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine St., on the University of Nebraska at Omaha Scott Campus. The symposium will be available via livestream and continuing education credit is available.

Guest speaker Nancy Nankivil of the American Medical Association (AMA) will discuss “The Ecology of Well-being in the Health Professions” and assist local experts in working toward pragmatic and actionable solutions to address factors that affect our individual and organizational well-being.

“Issues of stress and burnout involve all members of the health care team,” said Steven Wengel, M.D., assistant vice chancellor for campus wellness for UNMC and UNO. “The focus of the symposium is how can we start to redesign the clinical system of care and in so doing, improve provider health and well-being?”

Attendees will hear helpful strategies to improve health and well-being by applying principles gleaned from industrial/organizational psychology, the business world and medical humanities. In addition, medical center colleagues will address successful strategies they’ve employed with their teams.

“Proven, practical strategies — that’s what the symposium is about this year,” Dr. Wengel said.

Sponsored by the Chancellor’s Well-being Coordinating Council, the symposium is open to all UNMC faculty, staff and students, but targeted toward physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, fellows/residents, students, staff and other interested health care professions.

Go online to register ($30 for general registration and $15 for students/residents/fellows) or view the conference agenda.
