Med center hosts CAREEROCKIT Monday

On Monday, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are partnering for the third consecutive year to provide an inspiring day of career experiences to 65 Ralston High School students as part of the CAREEROCKIT program.

CAREEROCKIT is an initiative of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce in partnership with countless community partners to connect students and young adults with opportunities to move along the learning pipeline, gain applicable knowledge and build excitement for growing career options.

Speakers for the event include:

  • Aileen Warren, assistant vice chancellor for human resources
  • Iqbal Ahmad, Ph.D., associate dean for postdoctoral affairs and professor, UNMC Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
  • Bill Glass, director, visualization and technology, iEXCEL
  • Brian Monaghan, manager, advanced simulation operations, iEXCEL
  • Kevin McGuire, student laboratory coordinator, medical laboratory science
  • Alison Johnson, rehab services manager, Nebraska Medicine
  • Russell McKune, sports medicine program coordinator, Nebraska Medicine

Students will participate in such learning activities as:

  • Hands-on activities and a presentation from the physical therapy team;
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with the College of Allied Health Professions;
  • iEXCEL;
  • A presentation titled “The Amazing Brain”;
  • Tours and presentations in the pathology/microbiology laboratory, the robotics laboratory and the simulation laboratory;
  • A spine board demonstration by sports medicine; and
  • Trauma simulation events provided by the Nebraska Medicine nursing team and UNMC simulation laboratory team.
