Anne Bowen

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Anne Bowen
  • Hometown: Lincoln, Neb.
  • No. of years at UNMC: Three years (seven and a half at the University of Nebraska)

Tell us about what you do here at UNMC.

I’m the senior assistant to the chancellor. In my role, I support the chancellor and the chancellor’s office through my work in strategic planning, community relations, state government relations, and managing the chancellor’s office high-level coordination. I also work with both the UNMC and UNO campus leadership teams, facilitate the chancellor’s community visits across the state of Nebraska, and help to host a number of VIPs and guests on campus. I spend much of my time working on special projects, such as leadership searches, event planning, and many “other duties as assigned” at both UNMC and UNO. I really love how diverse and rewarding my role is here at the university.

Excellence is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group demonstrating excellence at UNMC.

I am continually impressed by my colleagues in the chancellor’s office, as they demonstrate excellence on a daily basis — remaining dedicated, diligent, and keeping things fun — all while working in a fast-paced (and sometimes stressful) work environment. They are an incredible group, and I appreciate all they do to make this campus tick. I’m glad we’re on the same team.

What is your favorite spring activity?
One of my favorite winter to spring activities is going to the movies. I try to catch as many of the Oscar best picture nominees that I can this time of year!

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I have a twin sister, Elizabeth, who is my best friend.
  • I love to travel, and one of my goals is to visit all of the U.S. national parks in my lifetime.
  • I used to work in central administration at the University of Nebraska before starting at UNMC.
