The MMI Department of Psychology will be hosting Amie Konwinski from the Smart Girl Society to speak about child and adolescent (both girls and boys) use of social media, safety concerns, the digital “brand,” and how we can best help parents and kids navigate the digital world.

Konwinski will speak at UNMC on April 26 at 10 a.m. in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Center Conference Room, Room 0-12101.

During her presentation, Konwinski will discuss the most popular apps kids are using and provide information that many adults may not know about these social media apps.

The Smart Girl Society is a local nonprofit working to educate kids and families not just in Omaha, but across the nation. Konwinski is the founder and CEO of the society. She speaks to kids and parents at schools across Omaha. The content of her talk is applicable and beneficial to anyone who works with children, adolescents, and families, and anyone who has kids of their own.

The MMI Department of Psychology and the Smart Girl Society are partnering on research related to the use of social media by children and adolescents and the relationship of this use with factors of well-being.

The presentation can be watched here and will be archived for viewing after the event.
