UNO event discusses medical writing

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Master of Fine Arts in Writing Program is hosting author Marya Hornbacher, and UNO writing professors John Price, Ph.D., and Kevin Clouther for a discussion on “The Art of Storytelling: Lyric and Narrative Medicine,” from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at Kaneko, 1111 Jones St. in Omaha.

This discussion about medical humanities is the debut of a Kaneko literary program titled “Passages,” which has received support from UNO College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media.

Hornbacher is an award-winning essayist, journalist, novelist, poet, and the New York Times bestselling author of five books. Her sixth, a work of long-form journalism on psychiatry, neuroscience, and the future of mental health, is forthcoming in 2020, and she is currently at work on a collection of essays.

She is the recipient of the Annie Dillard Award for Nonfiction, a Logan Nonfiction Fellowship, the White Award for Magazine Journalism, the ASCAP Award for Music Journalism, the Fountain House Humanitarian Award, and other distinctions.

She is a professor in the graduate writing programs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Augsburg University.
