Annual summit discussed perinatal care improvements

The Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPQIC) Summit was held earlier this month in Grand Island.

The summit brought together 118 physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, hospital administrators and public health professionals from across the state to gather and identify opportunities for improvement, as well as learn about evidence-based best practices and quality improvement strategies.

During the summit, speakers addressed opportunities to improve perinatal care throughout the state of Nebraska, discussed evidence-based perinatal practices and specific change strategies and encouraged participants to commit to improvement initiatives within their local context.

The summit was led by Robert Bonebrake, M.D., chair of maternal fetal medicine at Methodist Women’s Hospital and co-medical director of NPQIC; Ann Anderson-Berry, M.D., Ph.D., chief of the UNMC Division of Neonatology in the Department of Pediatrics, co-medical director of the NPQIC, and medical director of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Newborn Nursery at Nebraska Medicine; and Peggy Brown, D.N.P., NPQIC program administrator, in collaboration with the UNMC Center for Continuing Education and the College of Nursing Continuing Nursing Education.

The summit is held annually and will occur next in April 2020. Additional information will be available on the UNMC Center for Continuing Education website as it is made available.
