51st annual Garden Walk set for Sunday, June 9

The 51st Annual Munroe-Meyer Guild Garden Walk will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, June 9.

Attendees will tour four Omaha area gardens during the rain-or-shine event, which raises funds to support the Munroe-Meyer Institute at UNMC.

“Last year, the guild celebrated it’s 50th Garden Walk and we are more excited for the 51st Walk then any before,” said Luann Rabe, president of the Munroe-Meyer Guild.

To enhance the Garden Walk experience, there will be free food tastings from five local restaurants, and there will be classic cars in every homeowner’s driveway. The food tastings, as well as various artists/vendors, will be showcased at the Pacific Meadows Park in an event called the “Garden Party.”

This year’s walk features four gardens; one of the gardens backs up to three neighboring gardens that also are included in the walk. The gardens, located at at private homes and created by the homeowners, range from mostly shady gardens to sunny gardens. Some are all flowers and others incorporation vegetable gardens with their flowers. As in the past, there will be a master gardener from the Nebraska Extension office at each garden to answer any of your plant questions.

The following Omaha restaurants will offer tastings: Railcar Modern American Kitchen, Homestyle Cafe, Jimmy John’s, Mama’s Pizza West and The Garden Cafe.

Tickets are available in advance for $20 per person. Children younger than 5 are free, but no strollers will be allowed in the gardens.

Purchase tickets online here.

Tickets also are available at the following locations:

  • Hy-Vee Stores
  • Canoyer Garden Center
  • Indian Creek Nursery
  • Moore’s Nursery
  • Mulhall’s Nursery, Inc.
  • Westlake Ace Hardware at 140th Street and West Center Road.

We live at 7420 north 124. We just moved in 2 weeks ago. There is a rock in yard that says 2011 garden walk. I’m wondering if you have pictures of the property then. We are working to bring back to former glory but would love to see how it looked in 2011. Thank you. Mikki Frost 402 943 8205
