Analyzing and interpreting heart sounds is a crucial skill for health professionals.

To provide the latest developments in this important area of medicine, a collaborative workshop will be held at UNMC on Friday, June 14, from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 0.12.103 of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

The “Heart Sound Analysis and Interpretation Workshop” is intended for faculty, fellows, researchers, students and practitioners interested in cardiovascular smart technology, automation, reliability, date security and training. The workshop is sponsored by a grant from the Collaborative Initiative of the University of Nebraska.

“We want to highlight the latest advances and current challenges in this exciting field,” said Ed O’Leary, M.D., associate professor, division of cardiovascular medicine, and one of the three organizers of the workshop. “The workshop will bring experts together from clinical and non-clinical fields to discuss the latest advances in this field, identify research opportunities and develop collaborative networks for future projects.”

Other workshop organizers are Hani Haider, Ph.D., professor, orthopedic surgery research, for UNMC, and Hamid Vakilzadian, Ph.D., professor in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering.

The program will offer a series of presentations in the morning followed by workshops in the afternoon. Speakers include experts from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, UNMC, UNL as well as industry.

The workshop is free and open to all UNMC, UNL and UNO students, personnel and faculty. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. On-site registration will be available. To register, contact Tuwanda Mayberry, program coordinator, by email or by calling 402-559-9268.
