UNMC will be conducting a card access server migration Aug. 9 and 10.
The migration will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, and be complete by noon Saturday, Aug. 10.
During the migration:
- Panic alarms and AED alarms will temporarily lose communication with the dispatch center during migration. Emergencies during these time frames will need to be called into the dispatch center via telephone at 9-5555.
- Certain doors will be unable to be unlocked from the outside for a short period during the migration, in particular many exterior doors to UNMC academic areas and non-critical buildings. Individuals will still be able to exit these doors from inside the building.
- The HUGS system for infants will not be impacted by this change at any point.
- Bellevue and Village Point will not be impacted by this change.

“We have several things happening simultaneously during these temporary outages,” said Steve Williamson, director of public safety support services. “Our partners in IT have diligently worked with my staff to ensure this goes as smoothly as possible. In addition to switching servers, we’re adding parallel capabilities so that we should never have downtime like this again. We’re also upgrading our software, which will allow more direct access control for those designated that capability. I doubt anyone will actually notice any service disruption as the majority of building panels update in less than 30 seconds. We appreciate everyone’s assistance with this effort.”
