Sidewalk repairs scheduled

On Monday, Sept. 9, sidewalks located at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza between Lozier Center for Pharmacy/Drug Discovery and the Student Life Center will be temporarily closed for repairs. Repairs ar scheduled to continue through Sept. 16. Additionally, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, a sidewalk closure will take place at the Lot 50 south sidewalk, located at Emile Street and Lot 50 and at the Specialty Services Pavilion north sidewalk located at Emile Street and the pavilion. Work will continue on those sidewalks through Sept. 18.

Athena Ramos, Ph.D., to receive award

Athena Ramos, Ph.D., assistant professor, Center for Reducing Health Disparities, College of Public Health, will receive the “Familia y Comunidad” Award from the Latino Center of the Midlands at the annual Destino Dinner, Sept. 14. The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. at the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine St.

Dr. Ramos began her professional career nearly 20 years ago at the Latino Center and has been engaged with its programs ever since. She recently helped develop a Family & Community Well-Being Program through the center.

Chancellor Emeritus Maurer to receive prestigious honor from Columbia University

UNMC Chancellor Emeritus Harold M. Maurer, M.D., has been selected as the Distinguished Babies Hospital Alumnus for this year. The award, which will be presented to Dr. Maurer in April 2020, is given by the Columbia University Department of Pediatrics to “an alumnus or alumna who has received wide recognition for distinguished service to the science or practice of pediatrics or for excellence in public service for the health and welfare of children.”

MINK Career Fair Sept. 11 for residents, fellows

The annual MINK Career Fair for residents and fellows will be Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium. MINK is an organization of in-house physician recruiters representing health care organizations in Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. More than 30 physician recruiters, representing almost 25 health care organizations in the Midwest, are expected to attend. UNMC College of Medicine and Clarkson Family Medicine residents and fellows are encouraged to attend and learn about positions available to them.

Helix Room to be named for Home Instead

In appreciation for the donors, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents has approved naming the Helix room within the Dr. Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center as the “Home Instead Helix.” The helix is an extended 200-degree digital touch environment that can display 2D and 3D images individually or simultaneously. The naming recognizes Omaha-based Home Instead Senior Care, the largest provider of non-medical home care to seniors in the world.
