Valeta Creason-Wahl

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee.

This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Valeta Creason-Wahl
  • Hometown: Sylvania, Ohio
  • No. of years at UNMC: 16 years in November

Tell us about what you do here at UNMC.

I am an educational project coordinator for the UNMC College of Nursing Continuing Nursing Education (CNE). Most people think that continuing education coordinators are just “event planners,” but we are so much more. We ensure that all continuing education activities meet the strict standards of our accrediting bodies. Only about 5% of my position is actual event planning.

Teamwork is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group demonstrating teamwork at UNMC.

I work with a great team in CNE. Every activity we provide requires at least two-three team members (usually more) to make it successful. We are always looking for ways to bring nursing education to our rural nurses. We are innovative and not afraid to think outside of the box. Since I started with CNE, we have implemented livestreaming of Omaha conferences, created several webinar series, developed online learning modules, and our newest endeavor – podcasts. All of these endeavors require teamwork with fellow members of UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and beyond.

What is your favorite summer activity?

I love to garden, but hate to pull weeds.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I would love to own a bed and breakfast in Colorado someday.
  • I love to paint, even though I am not very good at it.
  • I love to watch sports with my family.
