Allied Health celebrates professions week

The UNMC School of Allied Health Professions is celebrating Allied Health Professions Week, which runs through Saturday. A display table will be set up in the central atrium Tuesday, Nov. 8, from approximately 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with allied health information.

Allied Health Professions Week, which is celebrated nationally Nov. 6 through Nov. 12, honors health care providers working in the more than 80 allied health professions. Constituting approximately 60 percent of all health care providers, allied health practitioners greatly influence health care delivery by supporting, facilitating and complementing the roles of physicians and other health care specialists. This collaboration, which emphasizes the strengths of all health professions, enhances the quality of care for patients.

The School of Allied Health Professions at UNMC educates students for 10 different allied health disciplines: clinical laboratory science, clinical perfusion, cytotechnology, diagnostic medical sonography, medical nutrition, nuclear medicine, physical therapy, physician assistant, radiation therapy and radiography. There are 349 students enrolled in the school. Thirty-five faculty members (33 FTE) direct their learning experiences.
