UNMC Gives Back: Thank you, UNMC

Jenna Paloucek is proud she grew up in Ogallala, a town of about 5,000 people in western Nebraska with a high school, a movie theater, a bowling alley, a water tower that’s been painted to look like a UFO (with extraterrestrial beings peeking out of the windows) . . . and a quality of life that’s out of this world.

“Everybody just knows everybody,” said Paloucek, a student in UNMC’s College of Nursing. “It’s such a welcoming community.”

UNMC Gives Back 2019

From Sept. 30 through Oct. 11, UNMC employees are encouraged to participate in UNMC Gives Back. This effort asks UNMC faculty and staff members to consider a charitable gift to support those who make this university one of the nation’s best — our students and our colleagues. UNMC Gives Back will focus on two areas where we can make an immediate impact — student well-being and employee assistance.

Everybody in Ogallala is proud when they hear she’s studying to become a nurse, she said, but everybody immediately asks this question: “Are you coming back to the area?”

Yes. After graduating next May, she hopes to enroll in UNMC’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program. After that, she hopes to work as a nurse practitioner in women’s health in Ogallala.

Paloucek is one of the first students to study in the new building that houses the College of Nursing Lincoln Division. She said she’d love to thank the generous people who’ve given to the new building. It’s making a world of difference to her, she said, as well as to all the other future nurses who get to experience it.

Today concludes our UNMC Gives Back 2019 campaign. Thank you to all who have given to support the people and programs of UNMC — people like Paloucek, who are the future of health care in Nebraska and beyond. If you are still considering a charitable gift, you may make your contribution any time here. Credit card, monthly and payroll deduction options are available.
