State Student Nurses Association event held at UNMC

About 100 nursing students and faculty advisers from 13 nursing schools across the state attended this year’s Nebraska State Student Nurses Association (NSSNA) Annual Convention on the UNMC campus in Omaha. Numerous awards and recognition certificates were presented to student nurses and their schools.

Four UNMC nursing students were elected to the 12-member board: Maria McDougall, first vice president, UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division; and UNMC West Nebraska Division students Colin Wollaston, second vice president, Myia Hamaker, secretary, and Devin Beaver, treasurer.

The NSSNA Student Nurse of the Year Award traveling plaque and scholarship went to Mallory Woods, UNMC Omaha Division. Past president, Shayleen Behm, from the West Nebraska Division in Scottsbluff, received the Board Member of the Year Award.

The most Unique Community Service Award went to the College’s West Nebraska Division Student Nurses Association as well as the Overall Community Health Award and traveling plaque.

The Lincoln division received the “greatest number of attendees” award for attending with 26 of their members along with their adviser Jami Fulwider. UNMC Scottsbluff also shared the “traveled the greatest distance” award with Western Nebraska Community College students for traveling more than 900 miles to attend the conference.

Faculty advisers, Jami Fulwider, UNMC Lincoln Division, and Trina Aguirre, UNMC West Nebraska Division, received certificates of appreciation for their ongoing support of NSSNA.
