Torchlight Ball March 18 to benefit SHARING Clinic

More than 250 young professional members of All About Omaha (AAO), the Omaha medical community and other local organizations are expected to come together March 18, for the fifth annual Torchlight Ball. Proceeds from this year’s event at the Holland Performing Arts Center will benefit UNMC’s SHARING Clinic.

Since its inception in 2002, AAO’s Torchlight Ball has raised more than $36,000 for local non-profit organizations. Past beneficiaries have included Social Settlement, Hospice House, Nebraska Foundation for Visually Impaired Children and the Mosaic Community Development Creative Education Center.

The SHARING (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups) Clinic opened in 1997 to provide primary health care to underprivileged populations while providing a unique educational outlet for students of nearly every discipline at UNMC.

“The SHARING Clinic is the type of organization that the Torchlight Ball was designed to benefit,” said Adrienne Perry, Torchlight Ball Chair and Executive Vice President of AAO. “The clinic represents the goals of AAO and our members. Through its dedication to serving the Omaha Community, the SHARING Clinic is making Omaha a better place to live for us all. We are honored to be able to contribute to the ongoing success of the organization with this event.”

Tickets for this year’s Torchlight Ball are $60 for non-All About Omaha Members, and $50 for All About Omaha Members. (A membership to All About Omaha is $20). Tickets may be purchased online at the All About Omaha Web site.

The SHARING Clinic is a student-run, faculty-sponsored clinic. It is run and staffed by medical, nurse practitioner, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, clinical laboratory sciences, and family medical therapy students with the assistance of community and faculty health care professionals. The SHARING Clinic allows patients to receive quality medical care at low or no cost and for students to learn valuable skills by reinforcing classroom knowledge in real-life situations.
