Welcome Back Pack event set for Aug. 26-28

With COVID-19 and social distancing still top of mind, this year’s all-campus BBQ will look a little different.

Instead of the traditional BBQ with food stations, yard games and activities, students can stop by to receive a free Welcome Back Pack (while supplies last), which will include hand sanitizer, branded UNMC swag and more.

“We would have loved to host the BBQ again this year, but know it’s not the safest option for our students,” said Channing Bunch, director of recruitment and student engagement. “Still, we wanted to engage with students and provide a small bag of goodies to let them know we wish them all the best this school year.”

Students can pick up their welcome back packs at the Bill & Ruth Scott Plaza during the week of Aug. 24. Specific days and times are listed below. The committee asks that students RSVP ahead of time by logging into ENGAGE and selecting the day they plan to come and pick up their bag. Priority will be given to students who RSVP.

Pick up dates:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 26, noon-2 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 27, 2-4 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 28, 9-11 a.m.

This event is hosted by the UNMC Student Senate and the UNMC Recruitment and Student Engagement Office, sponsored in part by Metro Credit Union, with contributions provided by the UNMC Bookstore and GreenSlate Development.

In the event of inclement weather, pickup will be in the Truhlsen Events Center in the Sorrell Center.
