Denim for Disabilities kicks off Oct. 5

The Meyer Foundation for Disabilities annual Denim for Disabilities fundraiser will be held from Oct. 5-30 this year.

Denim for Disabilities supports the Thursday Night Recreation Therapy Program at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, as well as provides other recreational opportunities for teens and adults with developmental disabilities in the greater Omaha area.

“Even if you are working from home, consider donating to support recreational opportunities at the Munroe-Meyer Institute for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD),” said Carla Pospisal, one of the event’s organizers. “When it is safe to gather as groups again, your Denim for Disabilities — or even “Sweatpants for Disabilities,” if you are working from home — will help provide social opportunities for young men and women with IDD who want to make connections and form friendships.”

How the fundraiser will work for those in the office:

  • Ask your supervisor if you can participate as certain areas have dress codes and jeans cannot be worn.
  • Determine a department or individual coordinator.
  • E-mail Kim Bainbridge or Carla Pospisal for packets and stickers.
  • Bring $1 to your department coordinator and get a sticker for every dollar donated.
  • Wear your sticker with your jeans to show how awesome you are. Also, it will show your support for the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities and participation for the day.

Simply email Bainbridge or Pospisal to participate. People working in the office will be sent a packet that includes additional information regarding this fundraiser. People working from home with receive an email with information on how to donate directly.

“We look forward to hearing from everyone and are excited to provide future opportunities to our participants in our recreation therapy programs,” Bainbridge said.
