A workshop exploring how to attract and retain women in the workforce will be held on Oct. 29 from 9-10 a.m. via Zoom.
“Women make up half of our workforce on campus, but we see big disparities in levels of advancement,” said Brandy Clarke, PhD, director of the UNMC Office of Equity. “This means that we are not fully utilizing the talent and expertise of our workforce, which hurts us all as an organization.”
Despite more than 5 million available jobs, women are leaving the labor force in troubling numbers. The workshop, “Women: Work & Life Well-Lived,” will help UNMC leaders to create modern workplaces that women want to join and contribute to. Using research from Gallup, the workshop will discuss what constitutes a desirable work culture for women and how leaders at UNMC can create this type of environment.
“This topic has been discussed on our campus for many years,” Dr. Clarke said. “Yet we still have a lot of work to do in promoting a gender-diverse workforce at all levels. These learning and strategic planning events will help us bring together influencers on our campus to advance this initiative and move the needle.”
The keynote speaker for the event will be Heather Wright, a leadership expert who provides insights that enable leaders and their organizations to grow. She specializes in assisting clients with personalized development, change management, performance and other leadership and management demands.
Wright’s keynote is being sponsored by UNMC Faculty Affairs, Faculty Development, Office of Equity, Office of Inclusion and WE STRIVE (Women Engaged: Support, Training, and Resources to Improve Vitality and Excellence).
