Voting information as Election Day nears

Nov. 3 is Election Day. Here is some information for the UNMC community as the election nears.

Paid leave

UNMC faculty and staff are reminded that the university’s policy allows two hours paid leave for civic duties, including voting in public elections, if circumstances prevent them from voting at any other time.

Registration information

For those who still need to register, the deadline to register online is this Friday, Oct. 16. Register online here. You still will be able to register in person at your county election office until 6 p.m. on Oct. 23.

The state of Nebraska also has a website with information for in-state and out-of-state student voters.

TurboVote

If you have questions about how to register to vote, check your voter registration status where to vote, or the different options you may have, the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s TurboVote will help connect you with the information and resources you need.

Requesting a ballot by mail

For people wishing to request a ballot by mail, Oct. 23 is the final day for such requests to be received.

The state of Nebraska has mailed a mail-in ballot application to every registered voter. According to the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website, voters also can apply for an early-voting ballot by contacting their county election office in person, by mail or by fax.

An online early-voting application can be found here. Complete the form, and then mail, fax or scan/take a picture of your application and email it to your county election office. The last day for an early-voting application to be received is 6 p.m. CT on Oct. 23.

The ballot itself must be received by Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. CT. (Nov. 2 is the last day to vote early in the county election office.)

Check the status of your ballot.

Ballot drop-off locations

There is a ballot drop-off location on the UNMC Omaha campus, at the Clarkson College Parking Lot 8 at 42nd and Farnam streets. Other ballot drop-off locations in your county can be found on the county election office website or by contacting the respective county election office.
