West Nebraska Division nursing students honored

The UNMC College of Nursing Pioneer Chapter Student Nurses Association was recognized recently during the 57th annual Nebraska State Student Nurses Association (NSSNA) convention. The chapter is associated with the UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division in Scottsbluff.

The chapter, which sent 12 student nurses to the convention, was recognized for the largest census of voting members among the 18 schools with registered nursing programs in the state. The chapter also received three certificates of achievement and one award during the Feb. 4 convention in Lincoln.

Anne Brown received a certificate of achievement for being one of eight nominees for the 2006 State Student Nurse of the Year. She also received a certificate of achievement for her Share the Path project.

Trina Aguirre received a certificate of achievement for serving as the Nebraska State Student Nurses Association first vice president for the term 2005-2006. She also received an award for NSSNA Outstanding Board Member of the Year 2005-2006.

Five students also were elected to the following board positions: Anne Brown was elected as second vice president; Cathie McRoberts, secretary; Lindsey Harvey, treasurer; Kim Gaston, nominations chair; and Trina Aguirre, student advisor.

Those involved in the chapter credit its success to the financial and moral support of students and faculty including Sami Wunderlich, Terrin Wolf, Lisa Descharme, Jenna Thiry, Keara Ravenscroft, Melissa Snyder, Melissa Davis, Jennifer Cordell, Kim Gaston, Anne Brown, Lindsey Harvey and Trina Aguirre.
