Off-site flu shot clinic opens Thursday

If you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet either at work or somewhere in the community, an off-site location is now available for colleagues.

A flu shot clinic has been set up inside the Universal Swab Center, located at 5710 S. 144th St. in Omaha, inside the former Super Saver. This location is being provided as an alternate location for those colleagues who are working remotely to prevent additional individuals coming to Nebraska Medical Center or Bellevue Medical Center.

Here’s what you need to know, if you get your flu shot at this new clinic:

  • You must wear a mask and your ID badge, along with adhering to social distancing guidelines upon entry and during your vaccination time
  • Please follow the signs as the flu shot clinic will be to the right of the main entrance
  • We ask that you come alone, no visitors.

To help avoid clusters of people waiting, we encourage colleagues to schedule a time to receive your vaccine at Nebraska Medical Center and Universal Swab Center (USC) (USC) through the Bookings site. However, walk-ins are welcome with the following guidance:

  • Walk-ins for employees will be allowed at flu shot clinics with the following guidance:
    • Walk-ins should arrive no sooner than 30 minutes after the clinic start time

    • Allow patience while we manage social distancing

    • We may ask employees to return later to eliminate crowding and lines

  • If you work in a clinical area (inpatient or outpatient) ask your leadership about getting a flu shot in your department
  • If you are working from home, various community locations provide the vaccine such as local pharmacies, grocery stores or your primary care provider
    • UNMC employees who completed the health risk assessment and are enrolled in its health insurance can receive a flu shot at any in-network pharmacy for free. For employees who did not complete the health risk assessment, normal co-pays would apply.

Universal Swab Center (the flu shot clinic will be separated from the area where swab collection is)

  • Thursday, Nov. 5 – 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 6 – 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 11 – 1 to 4 p.m.

Nebraska Medical Center (all appointments will be in lower Storz Pavilion)

The remaining on-campus flu clinics will be:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 4 – 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 11 – 1 to 4 p.m.

Can dependants also get their flu shots at in-network pharmacies (grocery stores like Hy-vee) for free?

  2. UNMC Today Editor says:

Thanks for the question, Dan. If employees completed the Wellstream Heath Risk Assessment (HRA) last year, then “yes” they can get a free flu vaccination for themselves and all covered dependents. The “administration fee” for giving the vaccine also is covered but it needs to be submitted by the provider under the prescription plan (not through the medical plan).

Where do I access the flu shot health risk assessment? Having trouble finding it.
