Family Day at Joslyn Art Museum April 9

The Joslyn Art Museum invites employees, students and their families of UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center to Passport Partners Family Day on Sunday, April 9.

The free event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Joslyn Art Museum, 2200 Dodge St. To receive free admission, simply show your employee ID.

An array of activities are planned including:

  • Docent-guided tours of “Illuminating the Word: The Saint John’s Bible” at 1:30 p.m., and of “Castle of Coucy: Medieval Life in Miniature” at 2:30 p.m.
  • Art-making activities – Try your hand at calligraphy using goose feather quills or have your name written on a bookmark in fancy letters by a scribe. Individuals also will have an opportunity to construct their own miniature fortress with wood, cardboard and other scrap material.
  • Experience medieval life through live demonstrations.
  • A scavenger hunt will allow participants to learn about The Saint John’s Bible and Coucy Castle.
  • Children will enjoy art-making, games and puzzles based on ancient Greek pottery.

The family day is part of the Passport Partners program, in which all UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians employees, students and their families are admitted free to the museum and ticketed exhibitions by showing their employee ID badge at Joslyn’s entrance desk. A free admission includes two adults and accompanying children during general admission hours, which are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
