ASN unveils ‘Stay Safe, Self Advocate’ campaign

The Autism Society of Nebraska (ASN) has launched an educational “Stay Safe and Self Advocate” campaign to help people with autism maximize their ability to identify, and advocate for their own health during the COVID-19 pandemic and understand the changes to health care visits and routines related to the pandemic.

MMI providers and volunteers helped create the videos used in the campaign.

Individuals on the spectrum experience greater barriers and challenges to health care, and COVID-19 has exacerbated health concerns for the autism community. This educational campaign is designed to explicitly teach, model, and provide opportunities to role-play and receive feedback prior to health care visits. It aims to ensure that individuals on the autism spectrum are prepared to answer wellness check questions and understand how to practice good COVID-19 safety measures.
