Medical center walkers from the 2019 Heart Walk. This year's fundraising event will be virtual.

The American Heart Association will be hosting its annual walk virtually on Saturday, June 5.

The walk, in its 27th year, is the American Heart Association’s premier event in the community. It celebrates heart and stroke survivors, promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living and raises funds for research, advocacy and CPR training.

Participants are invited to get moving at home or in their neighborhood by wearing their favorite heart walk attire, going for a walk, eating a healthy meal, tackling an at-home workout or sharing how they’re living out their healthy at-home experience on social media using #OmahaHeartWalk.

The American Heart Association has a goal to recruit 1,000 participants by May 30.

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are sponsors of the event and together have a fundraising goal of $20,000. Currently, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine has raised more than $5,000 toward that goal.
