Jodi Parrack named to academic affairs finance role

Jodi Parrack has been named the director of finance and administration for the UNMC Office of Academic Affairs.

Parrack started with UNMC Physicians in 2007 as an accountant and transferred to UNMC in 2008 when she became a financial analyst in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine. Since 2015, she has been the administrator for rheumatology and gastroenterology. In this role, she supported a combined 47 faculty members including MDs, PhDs and PAs. She also supervised 19 full time and four hourly employees.

“Jodi has strong experience with different aspects of finance and budgeting, including managing research grants and fund accounting,” said Dele Davies, MD, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Parrack has a bachelor of science in accounting from Bellevue University and is working toward an MBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Dr. Davies thanked the members of the search committee, as well as Laura Bashus “for graciously stepping up to the plate to provide invaluable support to academic affairs during the past year.”

College of Nursing announces writing awards

The UNMC College of Nursing recently announced the winners of its Creative Writing Awards.

Faculty members Mary Petersen and Mark Darby created the awards with a two-year UNMC Faculty Diversity Grant. The competition provides an outlet for nursing students to share their stories.

This year’s theme is Nurses Encounter Diversity. Six students received $2,000 awards, eight received honorable mentions and a $400 award and submissions from nine students’ pieces will also be printed a Creative Writing Awards publication soon.

Winners were selected from 61 entrants from all five nursing divisions and all degree programs. They wrote stories, poems and songs.

See the winners and read their stories.

A story written by Anne Lano, a student who will graduate this week from the family nurse practitioner program in the Kearney Division was published in American Journal of Nursing Blog.
