The Healing Arts Program will host a virtual artist talk with Joel Sartore, whose work is featured in the exhibition “Joel Sartore: Photo Ark,” now on display at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer.
This artist talk will be available on UNMC’s YouTube Channel through the end of May. This video walks viewers through the current exhibition, and Sartore provides insight into the process of capturing the images on display.
Sartore is an award-winning photographer, speaker author and conservationist. Since 1991, he has been a regular contributor to National Geographic magazine and was awarded National Geographic Explorer of the Year in 2018. Sartore specializes in documenting endangered species and landscapes around the world. In 2005, he started the Photo Ark, a 25-year documentary project to save species and their habitats.
Photo Ark is an archive of intimate and stunning photographic portraits of birds, fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Sartore’s aim is to create studio-style portraits of all animal species in human care around the world — an estimated 12,000 species at least. To date, Sartore has visited more than 40 countries and photographed more than 9,000 species around the world to inspire people to care and help protect these animals.

“Joel Sartore: Photo Ark” is on view in the Level 1 gallery at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center through May 31.
