AHEC conference draws more than 80

Eighty-four AHEC Scholars participated in the Nebraska Area Health Education Center Program statewide virtual workshop April 10, 12 and 19. The Nebraska AHEC Program Office is based in the UNMC Department of Family Medicine.

The virtual workshop focused on interprofessional education in the real world with panels highlighting partners from the UNMC Department of Family Medicine, Midtown Health Center, Merrick Medical Center, Regional West Physicians Clinic and OneWorld Community Health Centers.

As part of the virtual workshop, scholars worked in interprofessional breakout rooms in groups and were assigned to different communities on case studies with topics that ranged from communities with no health care, to critical access hospitals and the challenges they face.

Scholars also heard from Heidi Keeler, PhD, director of the UNMC Office of Community Engagement, and Jody Gartner, a clinical recruiter at Faith Regional Health Services.

The Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program gives AHEC Scholars access to potential employers, community leaders, and national and state resources on the latest health topics.

The program, offered at no cost, is open to students who have at least two years left in their health professions training program.

Applications for the next cohort of scholars will be available in the fall.
