Breastfeeding conference set for August

The 14th biennial Breastfeeding: Baby’s Natural Choice Conference will be held virtually on Aug. 25 from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is open for the event.

The conference enables health professionals to provide competent and successful support for breastfeeding through essential topics on how to approach common lactation issues, cultural differences and other challenges experienced amongst patients and the health care team. Strategies will be discussed including important resources and panel discussions to help overcome any potential barriers to breastfeeding.

The virtual conference is intended for physicians (OB/GYN, pediatric and family medicine), nurses, lactation consultants, registered dietitians, medical nutrition therapists, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, breastfeeding advocates, social workers and students.

At the conclusion of this conference, the participant should be better able to:

  • Identify strategies to address common issues with breastfeeding including the challenges related to medication, cannabis and alcohol intake
  • Discuss individual differences related to breastfeeding amongst the LGBTQ, transgender, and other diverse backgrounds in the community and how to communicate based on these cultural differences
  • Describe best practices for educating patients about lactation using telehealth and available resources.
