Nebraska State Sen. Jen Day, who represents District 49 in Gretna, toured UNMC in August.

Sen. Day met with UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD; toured the Wigton Heritage Center and the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, as well as the Davis Global Center, and met with Nikki Carritt, director of rural health initiatives, to discuss UNMC's rural health and pipeline programs.

Although she has been to Nebraska Medicine (to deliver her first son, she said), it was Sen. Day's first visit to buildings on the UNMC campus.

"As a Nebraska resident, especially watching the things that UNMC has done, not just for Nebraska but for the country over the last couple of years, having this institution in the state is invaluable for us.

"It's wonderful to have the opportunity to see the 'inside' of what's going on," she said. "I wholeheartedly appreciate the things that happen here at the university."

Sen. Day praised UNMC's research and public health efforts.

"I'm grateful for all of the work that's done here."
