Douglas County Health Director Lindsey Huse, DNP, toured the medical center this month, along with Anne O’Keefe, MD, senior epidemiologist with the department.

During their visit, Drs. Huse and O’Keefe met with med center leaders including Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD; UNMC College of Public Health Dean Ali S. Khan, MD, MPH; Nebraska Medicine Executive Vice President Michael Ash, MD; and Harris Frankel, MD, chief medical officer and chief compliance officer at Nebraska Medicine.

They also spoke with UNMC infectious disease specialists Chris Kratochvil, MD, Mark Rupp, MD and James Lawler, MD, as well as toured the Wigton Heritage Center.

Dr. Huse, an alumna of the UNMC College of Nursing in Scottsbluff, called the visit an amazing opportunity to see how UNMC has grown.

"It makes me very proud to have gone to UNMC," she said.

Dr. Huse said the visit was a chance to get to know UNMC a little better and to work on strengthening the partnership between the university and the county.

"We’re so lucky to have UNMC here," said Dr. O’Keefe, also a UNMC graduate. "Being the local health department, UNMC is such an incredible resource for us. They’ve been very helpful in keeping us quickly updated on the newest research."

"It’s been an incredible resource," Dr. Huse said. "It’s so encouraging that UNMC’s mission and vision for health in the community matches ours — to put people first. To know that our missions and visions are meshing so well, that bodes well for our future partnership — as well as our current one."
