UNMC COVID vaccine requirement reminders

UNMC faculty, staff and students are reminded of critical — and quickly approaching — deadlines related to their COVID-19 vaccination status. Failure to comply with UNMC’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement will result in corrective and disciplinary action.

UNMC faculty, staff and students need to:

  • Be fully vaccinated by Friday, Oct. 22, or have an approved exemption, based on a recognized medical reason, sincerely held religious belief or pre-approved, 100% remote agreement.
  • Request an exemption by Sept. 15.
  • Student Health is handling the exemption process for students. Students must complete a vaccination waiver request form
  • Human Resources is handling the exemption process for faculty and staff; forms can be found on the HR-Employee Resources website. Employees and supervisors will be notified of exemption approval/denial by Sept. 20. Employees with pre-approved 100% remote work agreements may request an exemption, if they are not vaccinated, by emailing their request to employeerelations@unmc.edu.

UNMC employees/students who have clinical responsibilities at Nebraska Medicine must meet Nebraska Medicine’s vaccination deadline (full vaccination required by Oct. 9). Likewise, employees/students who have clinical responsibilities with other clinical agencies must meet their established deadlines.

To be fully vaccinated before the Oct. 22 deadline, individuals must have received one dose of a single dose COVID-19 vaccine (Johnson & Johnson) or both doses of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccination series (Moderna and Pfizer) by Oct. 8, so that two weeks have passed since your last dose. Other vaccines that are listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) also are accepted. NOTE: Individuals are reminded that it takes five to six weeks to go from your initial dose of the two-dose vaccines to being fully vaccinated. If you get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, you will be fully vaccinated 14 days later.

If you received your vaccine through the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine employee clinics held in lower Storz Pavilion, your vaccine already is documented in the Health Tracking System. If you received it elsewhere, you need to log in to the Health Tracking System and document your vaccine status. A link to the Health Tracking System also is available on the Quick Links on the UNMC intranet.

If you have additional questions, email healthsecurity@unmc.edu. A multidisciplinary Vaccine Support Team is available to answer questions about vaccinations or any COVID policy-related questions. The team includes experts from such areas as infectious disease, human resources, student success, academic affairs, ethics, inclusion, legal, research, health security, student senate, DEI and wellness.
