Block party Aug. 26 to showcase midtown businesses

Destination Midtown is throwing a party – a block party – from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 26 to highlight the vast array of merchants, restaurants and service providers doing business in midtown Omaha.

The inaugural Destination Midtown Block Party will showcase more than 20 merchants and restaurateurs in display booths to be set up in the parking lot of UNMC’s Student Life Center, 39th and Jones streets.

“This will be our first business-oriented block party for midtown Omaha, and we expect people to attend from all over the city,” said Destination Midtown Executive Director Tawanna Black. “It promises to be exciting, enlightening and fun for the whole family.”

The block party also will kick off the Destination Midtown “Discount Thursdays” program, which features special discounts and offers available on Thursdays from participating midtown businesses.

Black says party-goers can expect to see the latest trends in art and jewelry, books and reference materials, home and garden accents, gourmet food items and culinary treats, specialty gift items, hardware and more.

“It will be the ultimate shopping and entertainment experience, and it will serve to expose Omahans to the many treasures midtown has to offer,” she said.
