Joslyn Art Museum activities announced

Photos of powwow dancers, modern and contemporary art and a lecture on “The Da Vinci Code” headline upcoming Joslyn Art Museum activities.

Employees and students of UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center and their immediate families receive free museum admission during general museum hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.

For free admittance, simply present your UNMC, UNMC Physicians or The Nebraska Medical Center employee badge at any Joslyn Art Museum admission desk.

Public lectures at Joslyn Art Museum


  • Sunday, Aug. 27, at 2 pm, Joslyn’s Witherspoon Concert Hall

    Creighton University professors Ted Bohr, S.J., Susan Calef, Ph.D., and Eileen Dugan, Ph.D., will give a public lecture titled “The Da Vinci Code: Sorting Fact from Fiction.” During this talk, the Creighton professors will share their expertise to provide a critical analysis of the various theories that are presented in Dan Brown’s famous book “The Da Vinci Code.” A question and answer session will follow the lecture.

  • “Art on the Edge: Modern and Contemporary Art from the Permanent Collection”
    Open Saturday, Sept. 2 through Oct. 22

    Featuring the largest number of pieces from the contemporary collection that have ever been on view at one time, this exhibition showcases art from 1970 to the present. See recent acquisitions and never-before-seen artworks that address an array of social and cultural themes.

  • “Faces from the Land: A Photographic Journey through Native America”
    Opens Saturday, Sept. 2, through Sept. 30, 2007

    Powwows are an integral part of Native American life, offering the opportunity to gather together to celebrate their spiritual connections to their ancestors, the earth, community and traditions through drum, song and dance. Ben and Linda Marra’s large print portraits of powwow dancers featured document the shared cultural qualities that bind together the community of Native America.
