Spotlight on new faculty – meet Regina Nailon, Ph.D.

Regina Nailon, Ph.D., assistant professor, College of Nursing, is among the many new faculty members at UNMC.

Title: Assistant professor, Gerontological, Psychosocial and Community Health Nursing Department in the College of Nursing.

Specialty: Community health nursing and culturally competent care of Latinos.

Responsibilities: A registered nurse, Dr. Nailon will conduct research and teach community health courses. Her main research interest lies in conducting interdisciplinary applied health services research that informs policy aimed at improving health outcomes, as well as the health infrastructure necessary for the delivery of safe and appropriate care to vulnerable and marginalized populations in urban and rural settings. Dr. Nailon is particularly interested in the processes and outcomes of care for non-English speaking Latino patients and families. She also is interested in research that explores improving community-based health literacy promotion, and community planning for disasters.

Degree: Ph.D., Oregon Health & Science University

Post doc: Postdoctoral Fellowship – Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Memberships: Academy Health, American Nurses Association, American Public Health Association, Midwest Nursing Research Society, National Association of Hispanic Nurses, Public Health Association of Nebraska, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing-Beta Psi Chapter, Transcultural Nursing Society.
