Dr. Lahue chairman of NIH study section

picture disc.Robert Lahue, Ph.D., professor in UNMC’s Eppley Institute, has been appointed chairman of the Molecular Genetics C study section at the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Lahue will serve as chairman through June 30, at which time his four-year study section duty will be completed. His expertise is in DNA repair and mutagenesis.

“Dr. Lahue’s appointment as chair of the NIH study section is recognition of his leadership in the field on DNA repair,” said Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. “Being asked to be a member of a study section is certainly an honor. Being asked to chair the study section means you have the respect of your peers in regards to your leadership position in your research field. It is a special honor and distinction to be selected for chairmanship of an NIH study section.”

The Molecular Genetics study sections review grant applications on the fundamental mechanisms and regulation of gene expression. This includes chromosome function and maintenance, chromatin structure and remodeling, DNA replication, recombination and repair, transcription, RNA processing, translation and post-translational modification.

The Molecular Genetics C study section is composed of 28-members from across the United States and Canada. The NIH has two additional molecular genetics study sections.

A native of Hamilton, N.Y., Dr. Lahue also serves as associate director for education and training at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. After completing his postdoctoral training at Duke University, Dr. Lahue served on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center for seven years before joining the Eppley Institute in 1997.
