Passport Partners program to focus on Black Elk

Lakota visionary and healer, Black Elk, will be the focus of an upcoming segment of Joslyn Art Museum’s “Passport Partners” program.

Participants in the program’s latest installment, “Visualizing Literature,” will explore John G. Neihardt’s book, “Black Elk Speaks: Being the Life Story of a Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux.”

Participants are invited to read the book in advance. The book can be purchased at Joslyn’s Hitchcock Museum Shop.

A discussion of the book will be held Nov. 16 at noon in room 6 of Clarkson Tower’s Storz Pavillion. Participants may bring a lunch.

Following the discussion will be a walking tour of the Karl Bodmer American Indian prints located in the Pavillion to discover the thematic links between the book and the works of art on display.

Reservations are suggested. For questions or to make reservations, contact Jill Carson by e-mail or call her at 559-4694. For more details about the program, contact Joslyn at 342-3300.
