Mike McGlade has joined the College of Medicine Dean’s Office as senior associate dean for administration and director of finance. The promotion, which was effective Sept. 1, is another step in formalizing the new administrative structure in the dean’s office.

“This is part of the ongoing redevelopment of the dean’s office and our new evolving infrastructure,” said John Gollan, M.D., Ph.D., dean of the College of Medicine. “Mike has gained experience supporting the dean’s office as an assistant to the dean for education, research and clinical space planning for more than three years. We are proud he has joined our team in this new capacity.”

Under the new structure, McGlade joins four other senior associate deans who report directly to the dean on such issues as hospital functions, research, clinical affairs and academic affairs.

“We’ve essentially created a new senior management team in a style that’s reflective of a modern-day academic structure,” Dr. Gollan said.

The new structure is a sharp contrast to years past, when the office consisted largely of the dean and executive dean, who handled multiple functions. Now, the senior associate deans will oversee a support team on their respective issue.

McGlade served as administrator in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine for 14 years, during a time of considerable growth and major change in the department. He started his career at UNMC in the dean’s business office in November 1980, soon after graduating from then-Kearney State College. He became administrator in OB/GYN in 1988 and six years later moved to internal medicine.

In his new role, the Waterloo, Iowa, native will be responsible for fiscal affairs of the College of Medicine, as well as administrating the daily operations of the dean’s office. Del Lee, who has served as interim senior associate dean since last fall, now will serve as executive assistant to the dean focusing primarily on special projects. Lisa Runco will serve as the new administrator of internal medicine.

“This position that Del started to define last fall was a new role for the College of Medicine,” McGlade said. “I am excited about the opportunity to further define the role by expanding its scope in ways that compliment the goals of the College of Medicine.”

In addition to McGlade, the other senior associate deans and their respective areas are: Glenn Fosdick, health system; Ira Fox, M.D., research; Rodney Markin, M.D., Ph.D., clinical affairs; and Gerald Moore, M.D., academic affairs.
