Public health leadership institute graduates first class

The Great Plains Public Health Leadership Institute has graduated its first class of scholars.

A graduation ceremony was held in September with public health leaders from around Nebraska to commemorate the inaugural event.

The Great Plains Public Health Leadership Institute is one of twenty-one state or regional Public Health Leadership Institutes.

Each graduating scholar was required to present a poster outlining their year long leadership project. For abstracts of the projects and posters please go to www.greatplainsleadership.org.

The institute is designed for senior and emerging leaders in public and private organizations whose primary mission is to improve the health and well being of populations and communities in our region. In addition, the institute aims to increase the value of public health within these communities through greater leadership in action.

Magda Peck, Sc.D., director of the Institute and UNMC professor of pediatrics and public health said, “now more than ever we need capable and effective leaders who will protect and promote health for all in the communities they serve. Graduating institute scholars are equipped with new skills and fresh perspectives to tackle old and new threats to the public’s health.”
