NMC recognized by J.D. Powers and Associates again

The Nebraska Medical Center’s commitment to excellence, quality and extraordinary patient care leads to a distinguished honor. For a second consecutive year, J.D. Power and Associates is recognizing the medical center for service excellence for inpatient services under its Distinguished Hospital Program.

“We are always challenging ourselves to provide the best patient care. It’s a significant part of our journey to excellence,” said Glenn Fosdick, FACHE, president and CEO of The Nebraska Medical Center. “We want every employee to take pride in the fact that we’ve earned this distinction two years in a row.”

The recognition is based on a telephone survey of recently discharged patients. These individuals were asked to share their perceptions regarding five key areas of their overall hospital experience: dignity and respect; speed and efficiency; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.

The Nebraska Medical Center exceeded the national benchmark study score for overall patient satisfaction. The medical center received particularly high ratings compared to the national study in the area of speed and efficiency with which the staff delivered care to patients.

It also performed well in providing information and communicating with patients, according to J.D. Power and Associates, especially for its clear explanation of how the patient should manage his or her care after leaving the hospital.

“The J.D. Power and Associates recognition takes on extra meaning because it is based on the voices of our patients,” Fosdick said. “This demonstrates they have confidence in The Nebraska Medical Center and they give us their trust. It is our privilege to provide them with extraordinary care.”

Non-government, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition. Due to rigorous standards, only 20 percent will qualify. The distinction is valid for one year.
