Medical students pose in front of the new brick medical college building in 1893. This photograph is one of many documenting the 125-year history of the College of Medicine that are on display at the Durham Western Heritage Museum. Med center students and employees can view the College of Medicine display, as well as the museum’s other exhibits, at an employee night event on Thursday.

Students and employees of UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center have until noon today to RSVP for Thursday’s “Durham Western Heritage Museum Time Traveler Employee Night.”

Those planning to attend should RSVP to Jill Carson at jlcarson@unmc.edu. Attendees are encouraged to bring a guest.

The event, which will feature live music, free hors d’oeuvres and historical exhibits, will be held Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. as part of the “Time Travelers” program, a partnership between the medical center and the museum. It is free for medical center students and employees.

Attendees can view several exhibits at the museum, including the College of Medicine’s 125 year anniversary display. The exhibit, which runs through April 29, features nearly 40 large black and white photographs and several artifacts documenting the college’s history.

Other exhibits include the “Holiday Miniatures, Gems and Minerals from the Smithsonian Collection,” “Reflections: Russian Photographs from 1992-2002” and “From the Home Front and the Front Lines,” a display of original materials — including photographs, diaries and military papers — from the Veterans History Project collections at the Library of Congress.

The “Time Travelers” program offers the employee event annually and allows employees, students and their families free admission to the museum, as well as other programs, throughout the year. Free admission to the museum can be obtained any time throughout the year by presenting valid identification.
